About Rural Iowa A.R.E.S.


Mission Statement

Rural Iowa Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES) mission is to provide supplemental / backup radio communications to District 2 East, Iowa ARES.  Emphasis will be placed on providing services to local governments and public service agencies in the rural areas that do not have backup systems in the event of a natural or man made disasters and to provide safety related communications for public events.


Organization

Purpose

The purpose of Rural Iowa ARES is to collaborate with local Emergency Management, American Red Cross, and other Public Service agencies to establish the infrastructure, plans, and proceduresto effectively utilize the capabilities of the Rural Iowa Amateur Radio Operators population in the event of a disaster or other emergency situation.

Organization

Rural Iowa ARES will be established and operate in compliance with procedures and practices set forth by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) / Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES). A copy of these guidelines can be found at www.arrl.org

Membership

Membership in Rural Iowa ARES is open to any licensed amateur radio operator. Rural Iowa ARES is not a club and as such does not compete with local amateur radio clubs, but rather to coordinate with them for the most effective use of their resources in the event of an emergency.
